Flamenco and tapas bring a flavour of Spain to Grassington Festival
10:51am Thursday 30th June 2011 in Leisure
Andalucían revelry was brought to Grassington Festival at a fringe event at Cracoe Village Hall.
The night was a cabaret-style evening of tapas and Flamenco, arranged by the Angel Inn at Hetton. The entertainment was provided by Flamenco Pasión, headed up by Sandra La Espuelita. As well as being a dancer of exceptional talent and passion, Sandra is also an inspirational teacher.
Cracoe Village Hall looked more like Cordoba Town Hall in mid-fiesta, with Spanish flags draped around the walls and tables.
Three electric performances from Sandra and Verena Menichelli, accompanied by Ramón Contreras on guitar, were staggered to allow the Angel team to provide an authentic culinary accompaniment washed down with plenty of Rioja!
Also hailed a success was the festival’s Wheelbarrows of Wonder trail, with more than 30 official entries plus many more which have sprouted up throughout the festival. Celebrity garden designer Chris Beardshaw judged the competition.
Rob Keep won best in show for his Grass Roots barrow, Sarah Magill won best design and planting for Secret Garden, and the most original wheelbarrow was won jointly by David Ashby and Carinne Brosse with Grand Prix and the Grassington Congreg-ational Church Pilots group with Wheelbarrows at Worship.
The wheelbarrows will be in position for the remainder of the Festival and free trail guides are available from Grassington Town Hall and Grassington Hub.
