Readers' Letters

4:10pm Friday 5th February 2010

Christmas kindness Sir - I rent a flat in Fountaines Alms Houses, which overlooks Linton village green and is adjacent to The Fountaine Inn, which is very efficiently run by Natalie and Chris Lamb.

Readers' Letters

Sir - Re the new business “initiative” in Skipton and Ripon involving the new Tory parliamentary candidate. Quite how a London city businessman can bring real help to ordinary small business people in our area does not seem immediately obvious. Leaving that aside, what was most disturbing was the announcement that the group would be looking at getting involved in local schools, “potentially through the Academy Programme”.

Readers' letters

Sir – In its review of education in North Craven, North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) is claiming, due to a fall in the birth rate in the next couple of years, the three-tier system should go because the cost of educating children will rise.

Readers' Letters

10:30am Saturday 16th January 2010

Sir - The lack of action to put up temporary barriers at Niffany Corner in Skipton is without doubt a sign of the times we live in. This is a very dangerous corner and a miscalculation by any driver will sadly lead to further fatalities.

Readers' Letters

10:10am Saturday 9th January 2010

Sir – Coun Marcia Turner (Letters, December 23) states councillors are not to receive a basic allowance of £4,400 but a mere £4,200, thereby taking a reduction in allowances. This is taking the term “economical with the truth” to a new low.

Readers' Letters

10:30am Saturday 2nd January 2010

Sir - Young people today often come in for bad press.

Readers' Letters

10:10am Saturday 26th December 2009

Sir - The litter on all the roads in Craven is now building up again. The council does not have the manpower.

Readers' Letters

10:20am Saturday 19th December 2009

Sir - During my long interest in conservation of natural resources, I have never ceased to be fascinated by the ability of opposing lobby groups to draw conflicting conclusions from the same common body of evidence.

Readers' Letters

11:10am Saturday 12th December 2009

Sir - I’m sure the council’s offer of free parking for an hour a day to encourage people to do their shopping locally will be received in the Christmas spirit it is obviously intended, but is the timing right for it to do any real good?

Readers' Letters

11:10am Saturday 5th December 2009

Having now approached the revised roundabout at the main junction of the A65, A629 and A59, near the Little Chef and the new council offices outside Skipton, I am forced to conclude that the new road markings are not only wrong, but that they are inherently dangerous.
