Sir – I’ve read a lot recently about how people are disillusioned with our MPs.

I’ve been a Conservative voter since Thatcher’s first term, but I will not be voting for the current lot in 2015.

In fact, I won’t be voting at all.

The simple reason is I don’t trust a word that comes out of the mouths of this government.

There have even been reviews in the Houses of Parliament about why the public is so turned off by politics.

These must be about as useful as one of those made-up experiments to see the best way to dunk a biscuit.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense will give you a handful of reasons without even thinking about it.

There have been so many empty promises in this and the last Parliament, that insincerity has reached dizzying heights in the House.

The ramping up of “spin” by Tony Blair’s mob, the expenses scandals (which are STILL going on) and the ever-changing principles of Nick Clegg and his wounded yellow army are just a handful of the reasons.

PMQs is utterly shambolic. It has always been a bit raucous, but at least the likes of Thatcher, Major, and even Blair attempted to answer some of the questions set by the opposition of the day.

Cameron just ducks everything. He makes awful jokes and crass insults. It’s utterly pathetic and shows contempt for the country.

Now, I’m sure there are some good MPs out there – our own seems reasonable enough – but the thing is I no longer have any faith in the Conservative party.

You just have to look at the betrayal of rural communities – supposedly the Conservative’s key demographic – to see how badly they’ve lost it.

That they’re allowing the cutting of rural bus routes is scandalous. Whole communities will be cut off in the Dales and rural economies will suffer disproportionately.

On top of this, other key rural services are being scythed without any thought or empathy.

There seems to be little protection for attractive rural areas from over-zealous developers (although there does, at last, seem to be some proper opposition to the wind turbine brigade).

Meanwhile foreign aid is still protected, the richest are still evading taxes and getting tax breaks, bankers are still getting huge bonuses.

The reason I’ve voted Conservative all my life is their sensible and cautious fiscal policies. But this mob are just taking a wrecking ball to the country.

I have no problem with cuts – the state provides far too much – but they need to be sensible, well-judged cuts, not rush everything through in case you don’t win the next election.

Labour spent and wasted money like it was going out of fashion – but they have one thing right. If you try to take too much money out of the economy too quickly it’s obvious that the economy will take longer to recover.
