Sir – How fortunate we are that there are those great people of the Upper Whafedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) who can be called upon when we have an accident whilst walking.
The story in last weeks paper by Lindsey Moore was of particular interest to me, having fallen up Hebden Gill and having to be rescued by members of UWFRA.
The operation from arriving and transporting me by Land Rover to the ambulance was just amazing and, in my opinion, it is the unpaid volunteers such as those who came to my aid who should be rewarded by the honours system, not the overpaid stars who have been very well renumerated all their working lives.
Having now been discharged from Airedale General Hospital, can I just say that the treatment I received there was first rate my thanks to all in ward nine and the experts who operated on my badly broken arm.
