WHAT is the Qur'an?

The Qur'an is the revelation of the book from God the mighty the wise. The word of God.

The Qur'an is the guidance for mankind and the distinction between right and wrong.

The Qur'an is the final scripture revealed by God confirming the previous Scriptures.

The Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the angel Gabriel, It exists only in the language in which it was revealed - Arabic. However, the translation of the meaning of the Qur'an is available in many languages.

The Qur'an was not sent down as a complete book in one revelation, rather the revelation spanned over a period of 23 years. For this reason it is essential to know in what circumstances the verses were revealed, in order to have a proper understanding of the Qur'an, otherwise its teachings could be misunderstood.

The purpose of the revelation is to believe in one true God. Ch 2 verse 163 states: "And your God is one God. There is no God but he, the most gracious, the most merciful."

The Qur'an contains many narratives with beneficial lessons, including the true stories of previous prophets such as: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jesus and Moses (peace be upon them all).

Of the stories, God says, indeed in their stories, there is a lesson for people of understanding (Ch 12 verse 111).

In summary the Qur'an teaches mankind how to worship the one true God, hence fulfilling their true purpose in life. Do you not owe it to yourself to get a translation of the Qur'an in English and read the final message to mankind from your creator, God the almighty?
