Birthday boys raise funds for Sport Relief
These two friends from Carleton have shown compassion for the less well off by donating money to Sport Relief in lieu of birthday presents.
Ben Hall eight, and Nathan Old, seven, share birthdays on March 16. But after getting so many presents last year the boys jumped at the idea of raising money for a good cause instead.
"It was Ben's mum Sally who came up with the idea," said Nathan's mum Nikki. "The boys had a joint party last year, so we asked them if they wanted to help raise money for children who didn't get presents for their birthdays and sometimes didn't even have enough food or clothes. They both thought it was a good idea.
"We were given use of the village hall free by the hall committee and had games and a chance for the children to complete the Sport Relief mile."
The 25 children at the party made donations in lieu of presents - raising £100 - and the birthday boys' parents bought each guest a Sport Relief t-shirt instead of a "goody bag". This made a total of £252 for the charity.
"Everyone had a great time and the boys want to do the same next year," said Nikki.
