Plans to build five houses for local occupancy on Pant Lane, Austwick, look set to be refused.

Planning officers have recommended the development at Pant Head House be turned down when it goes before the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority on Tuesday.

They say the applicant has not provided evidence of the need for development in the village and the houses would visually dominate the surrounding area.

They add: "The current scheme is not considered to respect the existing character of the village or the wider national park due to its scale, form, mass, layout and design, which would not be in harmony with the unique character of Pant Lane or the surrounding area."

The parish council has also objected to the scheme.
