Dog fouling in Settle is reaching new heights and councillors have called for the dog warden to make more frequent visits.

At a meeting of the town council this week, Coun Barbara McLernon said the back of Mainsfield was a particular problem.

"It's like a dog toilet there at the moment. You have to walk looking down to avoid stepping in the stuff. It must be awful for people with children in buggies. It will be all over the wheels. We need the dog warden to come out and do some patrolling," she said.

Coun Geoff Craven said the problem was also bad on Watery Lane.

The council agreed to write to Craven District Council to request the dog warden made more frequent visits to the town.

I certainly agree that Mainsfield is full of dog mess. I went for a walk one day and did not realise I had trodden in a steaming pile. I walked it in to the doctors surgery. It stank. Then I went to the naked man and got it it on their carpet. I couldnt get it off my shoe. It made such a mess.

I saw an urban fox the other night. I think it had scabies. I finished it off with a jack.

I saw a jack russell doing its business next to the canal in Skipton. I nudged it in before it had chance to finish. Someone needs to teach these dogs a lesson they're out of control.

I was walking down watery lane the other day and saw what looked like a giant python coiled up. then i realised it was just a massive dog egg from a great dane.

My concern is if dogs are allowed to behave like this, are the owners themselves any better? I'm forced to consider the fact they may soil the streets of our quaint towns also?

Its getting to the point now where i'd rather see an alley way full of crack smoking pimps than dog dirt. Its an offence on the senses. Dont get it in your eyes though - the dog dirt, not the crack.

I agree with most coments on here. Especially Mr Growlands point about stamping on it.

I am personally dreading sandal weather.

I remember the days when great athletes with excellent fitness used to run through these parts - not now, people are too afraid of dog poo blindness.

I am a dog owner and am sick of all the mess left in and around Settle. About 9 months ago a friend and I took bin liners down Watery Lane and cleared enough poo to fill the 2 bags. A week later the situation was just as bad even to the extent of the green poo bags being left on the lane. I would like to see a Dog bin placed at the Settle end.

Hardly rocket science.More red bins, more bags and where to get them, more covert warden visits and prosecutions via CDC etc.Perhaps certain(positive about settle councillors)stopped persuing dreams and agendas of their own and ventured beyond the market place they could get to grips with whats on the grond!

Settle,
Please tell me why you are all making this fuss about Dog Poo now ?.
Settle is infamous for, "Dog **** Alley",and Watery Lane always was a place to dodge s***.

Add a bit to the council tax precept and fund a dog warden of your own. The problem is clearly getting worse and as sure as eggs are eggs, you won't get more frequent visits from the Craven dog-warden. They only have one and they are spread very thinly across the district - unlike the dog poo!

full time dog wardens would solve the problem. this way, any dog seen fouling could be sent to a prison style kennel, along with its owner. a few days in a cage would surely make them see the error of their ways.

Surely we can devise some kind of dog cork.

Rammed firmly in the correct place we shall see no more of this terrible waste product.

I did the same and when I had enough bags brimming with dog faeces I threw them in to my neighbours garden. That will teach them to put up that unsightly conservatory.

What ever happened to the White dogs mess of the 1980's decade. That was easy to spot and had an almost pleasent aroma . Maybe we could add some extra chemicals that make it glow or hum at night.

come on scientists .

Hello CravenHerald.

I am none-sure, or unsure if you will, if all of this is solid back-cake is all from dogs. Surely if mr Henderson and Mr Fox can both fill several binsacks of this f****ng s**t then perhaps its left by other, possibly bigger animals. COME ON COUNCIL - its your duty to the hard working people of settle to get some tests done.

How long are these childish messages going to be allowed to continue for? I would have thought someone from the Craven Herald would have put a stop to this long before now. Some people clearly aren't capable of taking local issues seriously and are making a mockery of us all. Doubtless it is this type of person who allows their dog to cause the problem in the first place. I feel I speak for most of the local residents when I say we don't want people like that living in Settle. They can take their dogs elsewhere.

Concerned resident. You are spot on,ask the Positive About Settle cllrs what they are doing about it.I will tell you, nothing!Ask them about festivals, youth shelters, changing everything in the market place and persuing their own agendas while looking in the mirror etc.The Mayor lives in upper settle ,take him down watery lane to see for himself also cllrs Robinson Algae Ambrose assuming they know where it is.

I must admit to have taken part in this message board fiasco. However, you are wrong, I do not let my dogs wrecklessly fire brown fish on to the dry pavement as they are all at the bottom of the River ribble in a hessian sack with two bricks. No dog dirt in my yard anymore.
