Philippa Troutman

Ribblehead printmaker Philippa Troutman, right, has been appointed as artist in residence for the 2008 Grassington Festival.

In an innovative project supported by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and funded by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, Philippa will work with local schools and community groups as part of the event's Art and About programme.

She will help them produce work, which will then be displayed at a Track and Trail exhibition at Grassington Town Hall during the two- week festival, which opens on June 13.

Philippa is a renowned artist and her most recent exhibition, inspired by the shanty towns of the Settle Carlisle railway, was shown across the North of England.

Joan Haspel, chairman of the festival committee, said: "We are delighted to have been able to attract an artist of this calibre to be involved with the festival."

Visual arts director Helen Peyton is inviting other professional artists to contribute to the Track and Trail exhibition.

"Philippa will be working with inventive printmaking techniques to create fresh and visually stimulating artworks and it will be exciting to see how other artists respond in their own styles," she said.
