Café launch at railway station
Skipton Railway Station is to get a new café.
From next week, passengers will be able to get food and refreshments from Café Express.
It is a joint initiative between the Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company and Northern Rail.
The launch takes place tomorrow with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11am by Northern Rail's area director, Steve Butcher. The café will be open for business from Tuesday at 6.30am.
Marion Armstrong, of the Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company, said: "Initially the café will be open from 6.30am to around 2pm, but we hope to expand in the near future.
"It will provide locally-sourced refreshments, cold snacks, sweets and cakes as well as newspapers and magazines. Eventually we hope to supply hot snacks as the business grows."
The Settle-Carlisle railway Development Company is a not-for-profit company and already runs a trolley service on the Settle-Carlisle line.
"We have a really positive relationship with Northern Rail and have worked on many projects together in the past," said Mrs Armstrong.
"Northern Rail feels we will make good tenants at the station and any profit we make will go into supporting other projects for the development company to deliver.
"I think it will prove to be something of a renaissance for Skipton station. People certainly missed the café when it closed last September and we hope passengers will support us."
Café Express has been refurbished and redecorated at a cost of £45,000 by Northern Rail and the Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company.

Why not just open it so the thirsty commuters can grab a coffee on their way to work. Why do we need some grand opening of a cafe measuring 8ft by 4.

This is a total mockery. How can Northern throw a way an astronomical amount of money when it just needed CLEANING and a lick of paint. The previous tennants may have had a different view of cleaning but at least they served hot food. They also did not charge the earth for a cup of coffee.

Why stop serving at 2pm? Do the trains stop then as well? 'Commuting' happens twice a day - we don't just go somewhere and not come back.
