Bus fares are to go-up from Sunday on routes run by Yorkshire Bus Operator Transdev Keighley & District.

Dave Alexander, managing director, has blamed increasing fuel costs over the last 12 months.

He said:"We have waited for as long as we could before taking this decision and, regrettably, fares will increase by an average of 10per cent."

The company had invested heavily in new buses, he said, and its network of services was operated with one of the most modern high quality fleets of vehicles in the UK.

Earlier this year it had spent £1.4 million on new buses which were being used on services linking Keighley with Skipton and Ilkley, he added.

"It is essential that we address these increases in the cost of providing services in order that the existing network can be retained and further developed and that the programme of investment in future years can continue," he said.
