Thirty six years of feeding the thousands came to an end when a Lothersdale couple served their last meal.

Hugh and Belle Gott have been organising lunches for visiting coach parties in the village hall since 1972.

Belle, 80, hails from Rossendale Valley and came to Lothersdale in 1941. She has written three cookery books.

"I have had a very, very happy catering life," she said. "I must have fed at least 100,000 people."

Hugh, who is 81, came to Lothersdale from Cowling in 1939. He has been active in village groups and organisations including the chapel and choir.

Over the years Belle built up a thriving business using just what she had available to her - her own kitchen, the village hall, Hugh, local helpers and her legendary cooking skills.

What a fantastic example to us all!

I remember the first time Mum catered (for a party of 20) - how exhausted we were - even left the washing up until the next day!

In true Belle Gott style she was not going to be beaten - what a truimph!

Within a few years she was catering for up to 200 people a day. I learned so much and am so proud of my Super Star Mum (and Dad, the rock).

The 'trips' will always be a fond memory of mine. Smiling at all the guests hoping to get a tip!!
My grandparents should be very proud of what they have achieved. they have certainly made a lot of people very happy, including myself.
I remember stealing pieces of bread and waiting until all the guests went and we could have a feast on all the leftovers!
I am so proud that Hugh and Belle are my grandparents! xxx

They sound like two amazing people. I hope they enjoy their 'retirement' - they certainly deserve it.
Well done, Hugh and Belle!

Anybody who knows Hugh and Belle knows their commitment to everything they become involved with. The fact that they would go to any possible lengths to satisfy people is testament to the fantastically positive outlook on life that they both share. I am so proud to call them my grandparents.
