Priest ordained by her father
In what is thought to be a first for the Church of England, Louise Taylor-Kenyon was ordained priest at Christ Church, Skipton, by her father, the Right Rev Hewlett Thompson.
He was Bishop of Exeter until he retired in 1999 and is now honorary assistant bishop in the Diocese of Carlisle.
Louise, who is curate for Holy Trinity and Christ Church in Skipton, St Mary the Virgin, Carleton, St Mary's, Embsay and St Augustine, Draughton, said: "Being ordained priest is an extraordinary event in itself, but being ordained by my own father made me very aware of how my spiritual inheritance is interlinked with my family inheritance."
Louise was one of nine deacons and 12 priests ordained in the diocese on Sunday.
They included: deacon - Kathryn Hammond, St Michael and All Angels, Linton; priests - Barbara Clarke, of St Peter's, Addingham; Mabel Parr, of St Margaret's, High Bentham, and St John the Baptist, Low Bentham; Valerie Lowe, of Christ Church, Skipton, and St Mary the Virgin, Carleton.
