Skipton Town Council has appointed a new chief officer.

Dave Parker, left, who is also town centre manager, has been acting chief officer since November following the departure of Lis Moore.

He joined the council in November last year as its second ever town manager.

Originally from Wakefield, he has lived in Skipton since 2003 when he took over as managing director of Fresh Radio, where he was also a regular presenter.

Before his 10 years in local radio, he spent five years as head of Wakefield District Council's press office.

Yes, congratulations, shops standing empty, others closing, the highest concentration of charity shops anywhere.
How come Ilkley has no attraction like the castle yet it has quality shops, not just the usual High St big names?

Possibly but the wake of destruction left behind is plain for all to see. Skipton has become a joke. Charity shops everywhere, unoccupied premises and a market full of Tat! Yet again Skipton shoots itself in the foot and is now lagging behind.

Skipton High St is a joke with so many empty properties with rents so high that you question who can afford to take them on. The town is dying on its feet, so what can the 'Chief Officer' do to address this?

The Christmas lights were better last year and I'm guessing Dave would have been behind that, also I have seen an improvement in things the town has to offer. As a local, I tend not to come out on market days, but think the market is still ok - nothing special, maybe this could be addressed. What's more annoying is the parking of tourists outside my house - can't we hurry up with these resident permits etc. Overall, good job and I wish the new clerk all the best.
