Village traders report difficult year

It had been a difficult trading year, Grassington and District Chamber of Trade was told at a meeting last week.

Chairman John Wain said the recession had become a fact and was not going away quickly. “A wet summer did not help anyone," he added.

He called for closer working with other organisations to promote the area and suggested efforts should be made to encourage coaches to stay longer so passengers could better explore Grassington’s commercial centre.

Mr Wain said the village had held four major events during the year which had been a big success. Events would culminate with the Dickensian Festival on December 1, 8 and 15.

The chairman invited ideas for future events.
