Farmers are urged to jam switchboards
10:55am Friday 26th October 2012 in News
More than 360 farmers and their wives attended a Farmers For Action meeting at Skipton Auction Mart on Monday.
Chairman David Handley said that the Dairy Coalition – made up of Farmers For Action, the Tenant Farmers Association, the NFU, the Women’s Institute and the Young Farmers – was united as never before, He added that since initial action was taken in July, £300 million had been put back into the dairy industry.
The voluntary code, agreed by all sectors in the dairy coalition, was now in full place and the market seemed to be going in the right direction.
One woman in the audience raised a question about Sainsbury’s intention to abolish the red tractor logo from its food and, in response, Mr Handley urged everyone to jam Sainsbury’s switchboards to tell them clearly that they wanted food from sustainable sources, that they valued the long term sustainability of the industry and that they wanted to retain the red tractor logo.
