Hydro scheme just misses out on prize

The Settle Hydro scheme has just missed out on winning £10,000 in the Key Fund’s Top Ten Social Enterprise Awards.

The scheme had been named renewable energy sector finalist, but failed to take the overall award. Instead it went to Doncaster Refurnish, which provides affordable furniture for disadvantaged people and prevents vast amounts of reusable furniture being buried in landfill.

The awards ceremony was held at the Magna Science Museum on Thursday.

Ann Oldroyd, chief executive of the Key Fund, said: “All the social enterprises we have worked with deserve recognition and it’s been tough to judge. They are all winners because they judge success as something that goes beyond profit.”
