Sutton motorist's driving ban reduced

A Sutton-in-Craven motorist has had a driving ban reduced after magistrates heard a previous conviction had been set aside.

Maciej Klimkiewicz, 33, received a four month ban from Skipton magistrates last month to run alongside a ban imposed by North Cumbria Magistrates.

But, on Friday, magistrates heard the original ban, imposed under the totting up procedure, had been set aside.

Skipton magistrates heard that Klimkeiwicz had failed to receive court notifications because of problems receiving mail.

When he was stopped in Skipton on August 16, he was unaware he had been banned by North Cumbria from driving for six months under the totting up procedure.

He had since returned to court, explained his situation and had the number of points on his licence reduced, no longer making him a totter with an automatic ban.

On Friday, Skipton magistrates set aside a driving while disqualified conviction, but imposed a seven day driving ban for driving without insurance on August 16 on the A629 at Skipton.

Klimkiewicz, of High Street, was also fined £45 and ordered to pay a £15 victims surcharge. No costs were awarded against him.
