The first international trick scooter rider champion is a 14 year-old boy from Skipton.
Jay Harrison, a pupil at Aireville School, Skipton, beat off 60 other competitors, some arriving from as far as Europe and Australia, to take the top place and the trophy at the inaugural International Scooter Association Championship at Deeside Leisure Centre.
Jay of Pine Close, Skipton, who honed his skills at Skipton Skate Park, where he still practices and also performs at The Works in Leeds, has been involved in the sport for about two years.
His flips, somersaults and other amazing tricks convinced the judges he was the best in the competition.
The riders are judged on the level of their acrobatics, their technical ability and consistency.
“I was really happy to qualify top in the last ten to take part in the final. The competition level was high because there were some really good people. I got more points because I used all of the ramps,”said Jay.
The competition was over four rounds with the first two single runs involving all the competitors and the final two runs exclusively for the top ten. Jay is sponsored by the Harrogate-based Rigg My Roll.
