A new Skipton and Craven Green Party was launched at a public meeting in Skipton.
It was attended by Green Party members who live in Craven and 12 interested members of the public.
As part of the lead-up to the launch, members from other parts of Yorkshire put several thousand leaflets through doors in Skipton.
Party activist Claire Nash said: “We are thrilled to have our own local party at last and hope to stand several candidates in next year’s county council election.”
