German-born Charlotte Bone, who moved to Carleton after marrying local man Leonard Bone, has died, aged 88.
Charlotte, whose maiden name was Reifegerste, worked as a clerical assistant at the American-owned Valvoline Oil Company in Hamburg.
She married Leonard just after the Second World War at St Mary’s Church, Carleton, and the couple made their home in the lower part of the village.
“She found some of the conditions quite primitive compared to what she had been used to in Germany,” said her son, Raymond.
She was a secretary with several firms in the area, while Leonard worked for years on the local railway before becoming a semi-skilled operator at the Rolls-Royce, Barnoldswick.
For several years, Charlotte was an active member of Carleton WI and Leonard was a long-time member of Skipton Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society and the Dalesfolk Group.
Charlotte always enjoyed the village pantomimes and would watch the Saturday matinee performances.
She will be fondly remembered by many people in the area, including members of SCAD and the Craven U3A.
“She was a wonderful woman and mother,” said Raymond.
A funeral service will be held at Waltonwrays, Skipton, on Monday at 3pm.
