Film-makers have recorded a second session of Cross Hills and Glusburn Dog Fouling Action Group in preparation for a programme to be broadcast in March on BBC1 about the nationwide problem.

It was attended by Cross Hills police and representatives from the parish council which has pledged to fund free dog fouling bags.

The action group is also considering setting up an environmentally-friendly dog walkers’ group. “They will wear green arm bands indicating they have signed up to the cause and can give out free bags,” said Jill Hirst, one of the founders of the group.

She said she wanted to contact people in the farming community to see how the issue impacted on their work and was particularly keen to meet local farmer Mr Jennings, who had attended the meeting but not left contact details. She invites him to speak to her on 01535 636834 and anyone else who has issues to raise which relate to dog fouling.
