The Folly at Settle has seen a 44 per cent increase in visitor numbers this year - despite the appalling summer weather and continuing economic crisis.

The site is home to the Museum of the North Craven Life and, last year, a £1.6 million appeal was launched to help preserve the grade one listed for future generations.

Curator Anne Read said: “It has been another amazing and rewarding year. We had an excellent start to the season, but then experienced a big dip in August, which probably reflects the overall pattern of other businesses and attractions in Settle.

“Whatever the reasons, it is certain that by working in partnership with others we are steadily raising the profile of The Folly and all the different attractions we offer to local people and visitors to the town.

“Our programme of special events and family activities has been well supported and continues into December, with a final chance to see this year’s temporary exhibitions and experience the special magic of The Folly at Christmastime.”

The events include Christmas Fun at The Folly on Saturday, December 1, from 11am to 3pm, and a Yuletide drop-in on Tuesday, December 11, from 10am to noon.
