A councillor has called for a neglected Barnoldswick beauty spot to be restored to its former glory.
“Fourteen years ago, Greenberfield Locks won a competition for being the best kept locks in the country,” said Coun David Whipp (Lib Dem).
“If you go down there now, knee-high grass in the picnic area hasn’t been cut and picnic tables, benches and dilapidated signs are falling to bits. A planted out area that used to be a gem sadly is no longer.”
Coun Whipp, chairman of the West Craven Area Committee, raised the issue at a recent meeting, where a resolution was made to contact the Canal and River Trust.
Ed Fox, a spokesman for the Canal and River Trust, said: “There is a huge interest and enthusiasm by people in caring for their local waterways. We’re looking at creating a towpath task force who would help with clean-up projects.”
