South Craven School at Cross Hills is offering financial support to former pupils now at university.

It is providing £500 bursaries to ex-pupils who are prepared to help out for two weeks during its annual activity period in July.

People who come forward to help for one week can receive a £250 bursary.

Support is also available for former pupils who use their own specialism to help out in the classroom.

A spokesman for the school said the scheme started last year. She added: “Four of those who were given bursaries helped some of our pupils produce a magazine during activity week.

“Two others became part of the drama department and were involved in staging a play. Using their degrees in music and dance they were able to help direct and choreograph, acted as vocal coaches and took on roles in the play itself.

“The general opinion of the supervising staff was that these ex-pupils were brilliant and contributed immensely to the activities.

“Although priority will be given to those who are thinking of teaching as a future career, this should not deter anyone from applying.”
