More than £1,900 has been raised for the children’s cancer charity, Candlelighters, thanks to the family and friends of eight-year-old Earby boy Ethan Wilson.

Ethan was diagnosed with leukaemia – cancer of the blood – last month and now faces a three-year fight against the illness.

He is being treated at Leeds General Infirmary and Candlelighters raise money to support work and research at the hospital.

Ethan’s mother, Lisa, was so impressed by the work of the organisation that she decided to have her head shaved to raise money for the charity and her fund-raising efforts snowballed.

“I was astonished by the amount of support from the community, we ended up holding a fundraising afternoon at Earby Cricket Club which was a tremendous success. I want to thank everyone who helped in any way, it was a marvellous effort by all the community,” Lisa said.

A total of £1,942 has been presented to the Candlelighters charity.
