Skipton MP holds Tour de France talks

Skipton MP Julian Smith
Skipton MP Julian Smith has held initial discussions with UK Sport – the UK’s leading events funding body – to see how it can help Yorkshire’s staging of the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014.
The MP is also writing to Michael Heseltine and Vince Cable to seek a meeting to look at the possibility of Regional Growth Fund money assisting some of the economic activity that will surround the Tour.
Mr Smith said: “As I said in my Parliamentary debate, Le Tour is both a great sporting event and a fantastic economic opportunity for Yorkshire. I am sure that all arms of Government will want to ensure that we capitalise as much as we can on the event for our region.”
Mr Smith is also keen for local businesses to get involved.
