Cancer Research UK scraps Broughton Race for Life event

The 2012 Race for Life at Broughton Hall
Cancer Research UK has scrapped its Race for Life event at Broughton.
The news comes after the charity decided to reduce the number of smaller Race for Life events across the UK in order to cut costs and increase the amount of money available for research.
Jenny Murgatroyd, Cancer Research UK event manager for Yorkshire, said: “Race for Life raises money to fund life-saving research, so we owe it to our participants and supporters to ensure that we raise as much money as possible in the most cost-efficient way.”
Although 1,242 women took part at our event at Broughton Hall, Skipton, in May, entries were lower than anticipated. Taking the costs of staging the event into consideration, we have had to take the difficult decision not to run it again in 2013.
“We are very grateful to our participants and their supporters who took part in the event this year and in the past, and I’d like to thank Broughton Hall for their support.
“We want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has taken part in Race for Life in Skipton and we hope our supporters will understand the reason for this difficult decision for 2013.
“We would really like to encourage everyone who took part at the Broughton Hall event to enter Race for Life at East Holmes Field, Ilkley, The Stray, Harrogate, or Towneley Park, Burnley. For those travelling to the Burnley event there will be a dedicated return bus service offered from Skipton, which can be booked with Moving People Ltd at £5 per person.
“More people are beating cancer than ever before. Survival rates have doubled over the last 40 years and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.
“Race for Life is an amazing women-only series of events which raises millions of pounds every year for life-saving research into all cancers – helping men, women and children across the region.”
