The Angel Inn at Hetton went to the rescue of Craven’s lifesaving volunteers – after their major fundraiser of the year was cancelled.

The award-winning hostelry staged a barbecue to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee and raised £3,673 for the Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation and the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, which is based in Grassington.

It sprung into action after Broughton Game Show was cancelled because the date clashed with the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Skipton. The show has since been called off indefinitely, making the Angel’s contribution even more important.

“We are happy to support such a worthwhile cause,” said the Angel’s Pascal Watkins. “You never know when you might need these rescuers."
