End of the road for Cononley Meals on Wheels

Cononley Meals on Wheels service has come to the end of the road.

To mark its demise, the volunteers treated themselves to a fish and chip lunch at the village’s New Inn.

Hilda Harrison gave a short history of the service and pointed out there were three founder members present – herself, Ruth Coates and Prudence Fisher.

Thanks were expressed to Joan Banks for her 32 years as secretary.

The service ceased on July 31 due to the withdrawal of funding by North Yorkshire County Council.

Mrs Banks said: “Times have changed as ready meals are now available from many sources although our clients – we were down to two per delivery – will miss the friendly faces of the delivery crews.”
