Driver fined for overtaking on double white lines

The driver of a Honda Civic who overtook a lorry on the A59 close to Kex Gill in view of a police officer will have to pay a total of £285 in fines and costs.

Christopher Kinsey, 34, was on his way to work on October 10 when he overtook an Argos lorry, crossing the double white lines as he rejoined the line of traffic, Skipton magistrates heard on Friday.

Kinsey, a car salesman, had been spotted by a police officer who was at the head of the line of traffic.

Kinsey, of George Street, Skipton, who admitted contravening the road markings, said he had wanted to pass the lorry while he still could and he had just crossed the white lines, rather than cut in in front of the lorry driver.

He was fined £120, had his licence endorsed with three penalty points, ordered to pay costs of £45 and a victims surcharge of £20.
