Cannabis was found on car passenger

The passenger of a car being driven on the A629 at Kildwick was carrying a week’s supply of cannabis, Skipton magistrates heard.

Police stopped the silver coloured Mercedes at 12.20pm on December 5 and while talking to the occupants, became aware of a strong smell of cannabis, the court was told on Friday.

James Akrigg, 28, produced two small bags which was later confirmed as cannabis, and a small, rolled up cigarette.

Akrigg, of Rombalds Drive, Skipton, admitted to the officers that he had bought the cannabis, a Class B drug, just half an hour earlier. It had cost him £30 and it would last him a week, he said.

Akrigg, who admitted possession of cannabis, was given a six month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victims surcharge. A forfeiture and destruction order was made on the drugs.
