Cracoe and Rylstone Primary School enjoyed one of its best ever Christmas lunches.
Not only did the 70-plus pupils share it with staff, governors, parents and members of the community, but they also helped to prepare it with award-winning chef Bruce Elsworth from the Angel Inn, Hetton.
The youngsters chose items for the menu, with lots of vegetables and fruit to reflect the “Healthy School” message.
And they made their own crackers and decorations, laid the tables and worked alongside Bruce in the kitchen to prepare the food.
They also learned tips on “silver service” from Angel Inn waiter George Oversby, who came along to help serve the meal.
Pupils entertained with songs and music from their Christmas show before tucking into dinner.
Headteacher Andrea Walker said: “It was a wonderful community occasion to create the best school Christmas dinner we’ve ever had and it was a real privilege for the pupils to work alongside a top chef.
“A really huge thank you goes to our teaching assistant Amandine Driver for her inspiration and planning for this event, as well as to parent Katherine Butcher and her team of helpers and to the Angel Inn and all other local businesses and families who very generously donated towards the event.”
