There was no play when Craven Wanderers’ under sevens team turned up for training at the Ingleton ground on Saturday morning.

The youngsters discovered that, over Christmas, thieves had broken into their equipment store and had stolen their bright pink size three footballs.

“The children were really looking forward to starting their Saturday morning football after a Christmas break,” said coach Nick Browne. “The club is run by volunteers who give up their time so that local children have the opportunity to play organised football. It seems heartless that someone should take these footballs.”

The team now has to raise £170 to pay for replacements. Anyone willing to help with a donation should contact Ben Steele on 01524 242398.

Anyone with information about the theft should contact PC Laurence Martin at Ingleton Police Station on 101.
