Two men have been arrested following a number of burglaries and attempted burglaries in Skipton town centre overnight on Sunday.

Detectives are investigating a break-in at Sophie’s Handbags and Accessories in Mount Pleasant, off High Street, on the same day. The burglars hurled a brick through the shop window and grabbed a Guide Dogs For the Blind charity box.

Shop owner Sophie Tyas, who has traded there for six years, said: “The box was thrown down outside. The cash was still inside because they couldn’t open it.”

She was alerted by a friend who was passing by and heard the alarm at about 7.30pm on Sunday.

The two arrested men have been interviewed and bailed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Andy Ingram at Skipton Police Station on 101.
