Lancashire Police are cracking down this month on motorists who use their mobile phones whilst driving.

Road Policing Chief Inspector Debbie Howard said: “The consequences of driving whilst using a mobile phone can be catastrophic.

“It diverts attention away from the road and increases the chances of being involved in a road traffic collision.” In 2012, 5,052 drivers in Lancashire were caught by police using a mobile phone whilst driving.

Skipton man says...

Good!
And while your at it it's about time you started stopping drivers for poor car maintenance, IE lights out.
I commute from Skipton to Leeds every day, and am appalled at the number of vehicles with lights out. They are often the same culprits day after day and week after week. They must be really poor drivers not to know they have faulty lights, either that or they just don't give a ****. It's DANGEROUS! Especially when both side light and head light is out on the off side of the vehicle. These can be mistaken for a motor cycle in poor conditions, and on narrow roads, you can suddenly be confronted with the width of a car that you couldn't see until it is too late.
I think the police should stop, take their details and reg number, and warn these drivers that if stopped again after say 2/3 days with the same lights out, a statutory fine of £60.00 will be issued.
