A new charity shop is set to open in Cowling.
The shop, which will be called New 2U, will operate from a meeting room at St Andrew’s Methodist Church, on Walton Street.
The room was formerly used by Cowling Playgroup before it relocated to the new Cowling Village Hall.
Edna Smith, the church’s treasurer who will run the shop, said: “With Cowling Playgroup re-locating, it means the church will lose over £100 a week in rent.”
Although its opening hours have yet to finalised, Mrs Smith said it was likely the shop will be renting the premises on the first Saturday of every month and possibly Thursday afternoons.
A portion of the profits from the shop will go to a charity, which has yet to be chosen, and Mrs Smith envisages that funds could go to a different one every year.
The shop has already received some donations of items it can sell.
“We’ll start slowly, but we think this could be like a permanent jumble sale,” she said.
Mrs Smith also said she has about eight to ten people willing to volunteer their time to help out at the shop.
“We visualise this as a community affair, not a church affair,” she added.
The shop will officially be launched next Saturday, February 2, when it will be open from 10am to noon, with refreshments available.
