Skipton newsagent loses planning appeal

Plans to replace the wooden door and window frames of Cooke’s Newsagents in Gargrave Road, Skipton with uPVC ones have been thrown out on appeal.

The application had been refused by Craven District Council in July, and has now also been turned down by the Planning Inspectorate.

A petition in favour of the development was submitted and the application stated the window would be partly screened by an awning.

But Government inspector Michael Moffoot concluded that the shopfront made a valuable contribution to the character of the conservation area.
