Community Champion Rachel Errington has helped to bring out the artistic talents of youngsters at Burnsall VA Primary School.

She has been running a “pop up” out of school art club, funded through the Extended Schools Partner-ship in Wharfedale,.

The aim of the club was for the children to create an artistic legacy for the school.

They created two silk paintings, one showing Burnsall’s links to the church and the community and the other depicts the school’s ‘code of conduct’ in the image of a tree.

More than a quarter of the school’s children were involved in the project, as well as several parent helpers.

“It’s been really good fun mixing up the colours and being able to decide how it was all going to look. It’s exciting that we have made something that the school will keep forever,” said nine-year-old Emily Gamble.

Rachel, who has worked with the school on previous occasions, said: “The children have been absolutely inspirational. They’ve brought together their individual skills and talents and worked together as a team to create two really excellent pieces of artwork.”
