A man smashed a window inside his father's house during a late-night attempt to talk, Skipton magistrates heard.
Craig Boyd, 25, turned up at his father's house in Clitheroe Street, Skipton on December 22, the court was told on Friday. On his way out, he kicked a window, smashing it.
When he was arrested six days later, he was found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis worth £10, the court heard.
Boyd, of Greenway, Glusburn, admitted criminal damage and being in possession of a class B drug.
He told the court he was sorry for what he had done, but he had needed to talk to his father and he hoped they would be able to sort out things between them.
He was ordered to pay £200 compensation to his father and was fined £50 for possessing cannabis. He was also ordered to pay £50 costs and £20 victims surcharge and an order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
