After knitting more than 33,600 blanket squares, Tosside’s Blanket Knitting Group has called it a day.

The group was set up in 1992 to knit teddy bears for children in orphanages in Romania.

After making 223 bears, members moved on to knitting cot blankets for a hospital in Africa. They completed 118 blankets, along with 32 pairs of shorts and 101 jumpers for the babies to get home in. Their next task was to make blankets for Oxfam, which were distributed to homeless people throughout the world.

“The knitting group is coming to an end, but we have made 350 blankets (33,600 squares),” said member Vera Newhouse.

Members came from Tosside, Long Preston and Slaidburn.
