Children and staff from Eastburn Junior and Infant School's reception class celebrate with their new bikes
Schoolchildren will be able to enjoy more outdoor fun thanks to the efforts of a group of volunteer parents.
The Eastburn Junior and Infant School Friends group spent money on bikes and trikes for the reception class.
Friends group chairman Paul Selwood said: “We raise money for the school and spend it on a number of different things. For example 18 months ago we bought a shed for class one which they could use for storage.
“Claire Lucas, who is the reception class teacher, came to us with a request to replace the class’s play equipment, which was safe but rather old.
“We said ‘yes’ and spent a little over £1,000 on trikes and bikes for young children. We bought these over Christmas and they arrived in our first week back after the holidays. We’re very pleased with what we’ve got.
“Recent fundraising activities we’ve done have included a school Christmas party. We’ve also staged fairs and tombolas. This year we’ll hopefully be having an Easter egg hunt.”
The other full members of the Friends group committee are Claire Ideson, Michele Tullett and Anne Hadley.
