A West Craven county councillor has welcomed news that £100,000 is to be invested in Barnoldswick Fire Station.

The fire station, on Wellhouse Road, is close to Coun Keith Bailey’s heart as his father, Bryan Bailey, served as a retained firefighter in the town for over 21 years.

The money will go towards upgrades after county fire officials identified it as one of three stations where improvements would be made in the next budget year.

Last year it was announced that Barnoldswick would keep its police station front desk and more than £100,000 would be invested in the police station site to relocate the town’s ambulance station there.

“The past 12 months have seen commitment to all of our emergency service provision in Barnoldswick,” said Coun Bailey (Cons). “I can’t think of another town in the county which has managed to get investment in its fire station and ambulance station and save its police station front desk in that time. These investments will stand us in good stead.”
