Fundraising is music to the ears of Cross Hills Co-op staff.

They adopted a Rock Around the Clock theme to launch their 2013 charity of the year campaign.

Their chosen cause is the Carers Trust, which was formed last year from the amalgamation of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads Care.

It provides information, advice and support for 14 to 25-year-old carers.

Cross Hills Co-op manager Muhammed Wali said the theme of the launch was designed to reflect the 24/7 nature of the challenges that face the estimated 500,000 young people across the UK who care for a family member or friend.

He said: “The challenge of unpaid caring is an often hidden issue, even though it can affect most families at some time. We’re delighted that the Carers Trust is our charity of the year and that we have the chance to make a difference to the lives of young people in our communities who undertake practical and emotional caring responsibilities.”
