A member of the public foiled a “sophisticated” attempt to steal diesel from a large storage on Riparian Way, Cross Hills.
The passer-by disturbed offenders at 9.55pm on Wednesday, January 16 and they were forced to flee empty-handed.
A police spokesman said: “This was a sophisticated attack using specially adapted equipment including ladders to scale a nine feet high electrified fence around the compound and generator to pump the diesel out of the tank.
“The offenders were forced to leave this equipment at the scene and no fuel was stolen.
“They are thought to have left the scene in a dark coloured estate car which had a roof rack attached. This same vehicle arrived at the scene in company with two other vehicles.
“It is believed the estate car had a set of aluminium ladders on the roof rack when it arrived at the premises.”
