The opening of a new charity shop in Cowling proved a “spectacular success” according to the launch organisers.
The store, called New 2U, will now operate from a meeting room at St Andrew’s Methodist Church, in Walton Street. It opened on Saturday morning.
The room was previously used by Cowling Playgroup, before it relocated to the new Cowling Village Hall. Church treasurer Edna Smith, who will run the shop, said: “We took £217, which is great for a little village like ours.
“We had a steady turnover of people buying things and we served tea and coffee. We’ve a good group of volunteers to keep the shop going – probably at least eight people we can call upon.
“We actually had more stock than we could put out on display. I think the donations will keep coming – we’ll just have to see how it goes.
“We’ll be opening every Thursday from 2pm to 4pm and the first Saturday of each month from 10am till noon.”
Some proceeds from sales will go towards church funds, while others will be given to a local good cause.
