Promise auction: Clapham School is still busy collecting promises for the forthcoming Auction of Promises, which it is organising with St James’ Church. The event will take place on Friday, March 22, but it would like the promises to be in by February 15. Can you help by donating a promise, such as a few hours’ gardening, an offer of transport, babysitting services, ironing etc? Get in touch with the school if you have something to offer.

Tapestry Group: The village tapestry group will hold a soft furnishing stall at the street market later this year, raising funds for St James’ Church. It is looking for any spare materials, ribbon, buttons or tape to make into something useful. Contact Glenys McMahon on Clapham 51403.

PTA quiz: Rose’s Rebels won the recent Parent Teachers Association Quiz. The team was made up of Sally Dewhurst and Robert and Kirsten Bullock. The event raised £250 for school funds and the quiz was set and delivered by Stuart Marshall, assisted by his wife Barbara.

Church party: St James’ Church is holding a celebration of starters and puddings entitled Miss Out The Middle Course at the village hall next Saturday, February 16, at 7.30pm. The event will include music from the JazzAire Trio and admission is £6.

Allotment space: An allotment has become free on the Cross Haw Lane Allotment site. Anyone interested in taking over in readiness for the growing season should contact Jill on 51030 or Chrissie on 51610.

Table tennis: Dennis and Sylvia Haxell, former residents of Newby, have donated a table tennis table to the community. If you are interested in playing table tennis in an afternoon or an evening, contact Jackie Kingsley on 51240, who is assessing the amount of interest.
