Pendle Council issues warning over council tax benefit

Pendle Council is warning residents that council tax benefit will change from April 1.

Council tax support will replace the current benefit and working-age claimants are likely to receive less support than they did before.

Coun Linda Crossley, lead member on council finances, said: “The Government has made these changes to encourage people back into work. But pensioners will be protected from any reduction in financial support.

“We’re aware that this could be a big change for some people so we’re encouraging them to find out what it might mean and, where necessary, start making arrangements to pay their council tax.”

It is likely claimants will have to pay something towards their bills.
