A prolific children’s author captured youngsters’ imaginations during a visit to Eastburn.

Wes Magee spent a day with children from all age groups at Eastburn Junior and Infant School as part of the school’s writing festival.

He helped pupils explore the art of story writing during a series of creative sessions.

Mr Magee has written many books and poems for children, as well as six poetry collections for adults.

The writing festival at the school was organised by literacy co-ordinator Sandra McLean and also included a visit by local poet Craig Bradley and a writing competition for the children.

Headteacher Jan Elliott said: “We’ve had 96 entries for the competition, which is about half the school. The quality has been really exciting and the children have enjoyed it.

“We want the children to see that writing is fun and to appreciate the importance of being able to communicate through writing.”
