Children at three Skipton primary schools are being taught computer coding techniques that could allow them to become the computer scientists of the future.
Year five and six pupils from Christ Church, Water Street and Greatwood primary schools have been given the opportunity to learn computer programming.
After-school code clubs have been set up by Dave Scales, an ICT lecturer at Craven College, and are led by students who are studying computer science at the college.
Mr Scales said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to expose young minds to the power of computer programming and hopefully plant a seed that will grow into them becoming the computer scientists of the future. Most children of this age regularly play games and use computers, but rarely have the opportunity to learn how to make their own games and programmes.
“The clubs are a fun way for the pupils to learn computer coding techniques and at the same time have fun producing their own games.”
A competition has been launched to produce the best game and it is hoped a prize for the winner will be donated by a major games console manufacturer.
